Press Staff Report

Charles City junior Chase Low and senior Jose Hernandez were both named to All-Northeast Iowa Conference Basketball Teams this week.

For the 6-foot-4 swingman Low, this is his second All-NEIC honor. After having a breakout sophomore season from which he earned Second-Team honors, Low was named to the All-NEIC First Team after leading the Comets in scoring (16.8 ppg), rebounding (7.2 rpg), steals (1.7 spg) and to the delight of the Charles City Student Cheering Section … slam dunks.

In part those high-percentage shots and Low’s ability to get to the rim with his quick first step enabled him to shoot better than 55 % from the field.

For senior guard Jose Hernandez, this was his first All-NEIC honor as he was named to the Second Team. A left-handed finisher who also was a threat from long range, Hernandez scored 13.8 ppg and led the Comets in assists (3.2 apg).

The Decorah Vikings, who will face Central DeWitt in the Class 3A quarterfinals of the State Basketball Championships next Tuesday (March 8) had the most All-NEIC selections with five. Joseph Bockman and Carson Wemark were named to the First Team; Ben Bockman, Trey McCain and Jacob Pipho were named to the Second Team.

Other All-NEIC selections included Waverly-Shell Rock’s Keaton Farmer and Cole Marsh — both First Team; New Hampton’s Drake Wemark (FT) and Carter Steinlage (ST); Waukon’s Braden Hemann (FT) and Braxton Stewart (ST); and Crestwood’s Jeremy Andera (ST).
