Comet Lydia Staudt leaps for personal-best while earning another state medal in LJ
Down to her last jump after scratching on her first two, Charles City senior Lydia Staudt took a “wing and prayer” approach to her third jump and managed to advance to the medal round of the Class 3A Girls Long Jump during the Friday session of the State Track and Field Championships. Staudt eventually leaped for a personal-best — 17 feet, 3 1/2 inches — while placing sixth. Staudt also medaled with a sixth-place showing at last year’s state meet.
