Comet girl wrestlers win 3 titles at Central ‘Scramble’

ELKADER — The Charles City girls wrestling team came away with three bracket titles Monday during the Central Elkader “Scramble” tournament.

University of Iowa-bound Comet senior Lilly Luft won the High School Girls 135-pound bracket while going 3-0 with two fall victories. Before becoming a Hawkeye, Luft hopes to earn her third-straight state title after claiming 126- and 130-pound titles her sophomore and junior seasons.

Charles City junior Ava Thompson, who placed sixth and third at state — both in the heavyweight division — her freshman and sophomore seasons, won the High School Girls 235-pound bracket while going 2-0 with a pair of fall victories.

Comet junior Kylie Blunt claimed the High School Girls 130-pound “B” title after winning her lone bout by way of fall.

Nyssa Salinas placed second for the Comets in the High School Girls 170-pound bracket after going 2-1 with a pair of fall victories.
