AMES — Charles City 2022 graduate Ian Collins set a personal-record in the high jump while winning the event at Saturday’s Hawkeye Indoor Track and Field Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa.

Collins’s top clear of 6 feet, 11 inches matched Iowa junior Zack Pluff’s top clear, but Collins — who was competing as an unattached athlete — was awarded first place due to fewer misses.

Collins was a three-time state champion jumper for the Comets with two golds in the HJ and one in the long jump. His top prep performances — 6-9 in the HJ, 23-1 ½ in the LJ — are Charles City all-time school records.
