Comet senior Ava Ellis named to All-Northeast Iowa Conference Girls Basketball Team

Charles City senior Ava Ellis was recently named to the All-Northeast Iowa Conference Girls Basketball Second Team.
It’s the first time Ellis was named All-NEIC during her four-year basketball career at Charles City. She is the only Comet honored.
Ellis led the team in scoring as her 10.3 points-per-game average was nearly half of her entire team’s ppg season average.
Ellis also led the team with a 68.3% free-throw percentage, and in blocked shots. Her 4.2 rebound-per-game average was third on the team.
Near the end of the season, Ellis was the 2023 recipient of the Amy Boley Heiter Memorial Scholarship Award, given annually to a Comet girls basketball senior who best exemplifies the inspirational play and spirit of the former Comet and NIACC star.
Decorah had senior Bryar Duwe and junior Yazmeen Whitsitt named to the First Team; and seniors Kylie O’Hara and Haley Gossman named to the Second Team.
Waukon had junior Breckan Stewart and sophomore Keira McCormick named to the First Team; and seniors Maggie Criswell and Emma Palmer named to the Second Team.
Waverly-Shell Rock had senior Katelyn Eggena and junior Brenna Bodensteiner named to the First Team; and junior Emma Thompson named to the Second Team.
New Hampton senior Carlee Rochford was named to the First Team.
Crestwood senior Olivia Ollendick was named to the Second Team.
