DECORAH — Charles City sophomore Carson Gallup has shot some low scores at Oneota Golf and Country Club. And some of them have counted.

The last time Gallup shot an 18-hole score of 77 there was last spring in preparation for the Class 3A state qualifier. But after a weekend of excellent scoring, Gallup was stopped short of state when he shot an 85 the following Monday.

This past Wednesday at the Class 3A Boys Golf Sectional at Oneota, Gallup shot a 77 which not only counted but was good enough for third place among individuals and to advance to the Class 3A District meet next Monday (May 15) at Waverly Municipal Golf Course.

Clear Lake sophomore Eli Anderson and Waverly-Shell Rock sophomore Luke Franzell both shot 75 to lead the field — Anderson was determined the medalist by way of sudden-death playoff.

Gallup shot 1 stroke lower than Clear Lake sophomore Dylan Bieber to claim third place. Wesley Hubbard of Waverly-Shell Rock also shot a 78 as the Go-Hawks won the sectional with a 313 team score.

Center Point-Urbana, second with a 324 team score also advanced as a team while edging Marion (324) and Clear Lake (325) for the coveted second-place district berth.

Rounding out the team placings were Decorah (334), Charles City (344 — Gallup 77, Riley Perez 89, Gage Kilby 90, Bryce Walker 98), Crestwood (358) and Waukon (358).

* At the Class 1A Boys Golf Sectional at Nashua Town and Country Club, the Rockford Warriors — by way of placing second among the seven teams — advanced to the Class 1A Boys Golf District Tournament to be played next Monday (May 15) at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City.

Led by senior Adam Wyborny’s third-place 18-hole score of 81, and with sophomore Kylen Enabnit (89), Michael Heit (99) and Wyatt Ritter (101) rounding out Rockford’s scoring (370), the Warriors were 2 shots lower than North Butler for one of two qualifying team spots.

AGWSR easily won the meet (335), led by medalist Bo Gerbracht (78) with teammates Eston Kerns (84), Eli Brandt (86) and Gabe Nederhoff (87) all placing in the top six among individuals.

Though the Bearcats were 2 shots shy of continuing their season, North Butler sophomore Nolan Reser advanced to districts as an individual by way of his runner-up individual score (80).
