Comets drop 2 to Vikings in NEIC baseball doubleheader
Press Staff Report
DECORAH — Scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the first game 4-3, and then rallying for 6 runs in the second inning of the second game, which proved to be more than enough in a 6-1 final, the Decorah Vikings swept Tuesday’s Northeast Iowa Conference baseball doubleheader against visiting Charles City.
Viking junior Brady Bohner went the seven-inning distance for the complete-game win in the first game while yielding seven hits and 3 earned runs.
In the second game, Decorah junior starter Fisher Tweten was able to overcome issuing five walks in five innings, but only gave up two hits during that span and got the win for the Vikings, who improved to 10-2 overall while sitting atop the NEIC with a 7-1 league mark.
For the Comets (4-9, 2-6), eighth-grade leadoff hitter Carter Cajthaml and freshman Rylan Peters each had two hits in the first game.
Charles City is scheduled to play six games in a span of four days starting this Friday when they travel to Cresco to take on the Crestwood Cadets in another NEIC doubleheader.
On Saturday, the Comets will host a three-team invitational with games against Saint Ansgar (10 a.m.) and Kee (2 p.m.).
On Monday, Charles City will again play Decorah in a DH, but this time at Comet Field starting at 5 p.m.
