Press Staff Report

CHARLES CITY — Several days removed from dropping a pair of close 2-0 matches to triangular-hosting New Hampton and Class 2A No. 10-ranked Denver last Thursday for their first setbacks of the young volleyball season, the Charles City Comets bounced back the following Saturday while going 5-0 at a triangular they hosted in Comet Gym.

The Comets rolled off consecutive best-of-three 2-0 set sweeps of Riceville (21-13, 21-9), Mason City (21-7, 21-11), Iowa Falls-Alden (21-12), Hampton-Dumont-CAL (21-13, 21-9) and Northeast Iowa Conference rival Decorah (21-17, 21-7), whom they defeated in the Class 4A regional semifinals late last season.

Going into Monday’s triangular at Comet Gym featuring visitors Clayton Ridge and Central Elkader, the Class 4A No. 14-ranked Comets are led by junior Mya Rimrod, who leads the team with 44 digs — Rimrod was six digs away from recording her 500th of her career going into the triangular; senior Keely Collins, who leads the team with 17 blocks; sophomore Sofia Parrott, who leads the team with 175 assists; and sophomore Keely Anderegg, who leads the team in both kills (46) and service aces (12).
