SPIRIT LAKE — After losing a back-and-forth five-set match to Northeast Iowa Conference rival New Hampton last Tuesday and then being unceremoniously bounced from the Class 4A Top 15 Volleyball Rankings compiled by the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union the next day, the Charles City Comets have gone on to win six of their next seven matches.

It started at Thursday’s triangular at Mason City where the Comets defeated the hosts and Clear Lake 2-0 in a pair of abbreviated matches.

Then during Saturday’s tournament at Spirit Lake, Charles City defeated Spirit Lake (2-0) Sibley-Ocheyedan (2-0), Sheldon (2-0) and Newell-Fonda (2-1); and lost to Class 3A No. 4-ranked Cherokee Washington (2-1).

Going into Tuesday’s NEIC away match at Waukon, the Comets’ statistical leaders include senior Keely Collins (109 kills, 34 blocks), junior Mya Rimrod (103 digs), sophomore Sophia Parrott (354 assists, 141 successful serves) and sophomore Keely Anderegg (27 aces, 141 successful serves).
