Winner by fall in all bouts during Comets at Green Devils girls wrestling dual

Press Staff Report

OSAGE — When sporting events go sideways, it often results in a “Free for All”.

The Charles City Comets at Osage Green Devils girls high school wrestling dual Tuesday night ended up in a “Falls for All”.

At least that was for all of the wrestlers who had their arms raised after each stopped bout as none of the wrestled matches went the distance.

The hosting Devils got seven falls to the Comets’ six and were awarded a forfeit victory in the 100 weight class on way to a home meet victory (48-36).

Two of Charles City pins were earned by their returning state-qualifiers: junior 190-pounder Leah Stewart, who stopped Jada Chisholm 46 seconds into their match; and senior 235-pounder Ava Thompson, who got the slap 3:38 into her bout against Emma Schipper.

Fresh off her championship showing at the Decorah Fall Girls Tournament on Saturday, Comet senior Destiny Kolheim improved to 5-0 this young season with a fall victory over Aubrey Chapman in the 155-pound match.

Other winners by fall for Charles City included Sophia Calpito, who pinned Alexis Kolbet 3:12 into their 105-pound bout; Edie Collins, who pinned Melanie Bruesewitz 2:49 into their 130-pound bout; and Kylie Blunt, who pinned Kaylie Havig with short-time ticking off in the third period of their 140-pound bout.

Osage’s winners included Gable Hemann (110), Ivy Christensen (115), Maddie Swenson (120), Emma Evens (125), Annaliese Arciniega (135), Annika Krebsbach (145) and Addison Schenker (170).
