Comet boys 2nd at Independence Team Baker Tournament; Hadley rolls 10-strike 266 for CC girls

FOREST CITY — Charles City junior Payton Hadley had a 10-strike game which included stringing her first six while recording a personal-record bowling game score of 266 while helping the Comet girls roll over Forest City last Friday on the road.
Hadley’s two-game series (426) also was a PR as it led the Comets’ individual scoring quintet of junior Isabell Crawford (396), junior Darian Hesse (386 — a PR series), senior Claire Girkin (317) and freshman Kinleigh Bahe (293) in a one-sided win over the Indians (2,754-1,467) while improving to 5-4 for the season.
The Comet boys were also victorious over the Indians, but the final score was much closer (2,869-2,824) as Charles City only led by 5 pins going into the final Baker Rotation game.
Junior Keaton Ross (456), freshman Noah White (395), freshman Joey Robel (383), sophomore Sullivan Gerleman (378) and junior Zach Putney (357) were the scoring individuals for the Comets (8-2).
The following day, Charles City participated in the Independence Team Baker Tournament held at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
After the preliminary round, the Comet boys were seeded No. 2 out of 18 teams for the single-elimination bracket and advanced to the championship series against Marion. There, the Wolves defeated the Comets in the best-of-three series 2 games to 1.
On Wednesday during the North Central Bowling Conference Tournament, also at Cadillac Lanes, the Comet boys also placed runner-up.
The Comet girls emerged as champions of the conference tournament, but placed fourth in the Independence tourney.
Both Charles City squads will be back in action on Friday when they host Mason City and North Iowa at Comet Bowl. It will serve as the Comets’ “Senior Night”.
