Comet netters defeat Go-Hawks 7-2

CHARLES CITY — With a 7-2 girls tennis victory over Northeast Iowa Conference rival Waverly-Shell Rock on Monday at Sportsmen’s Park, the Charles City Comets put an end to a six-match losing streak against the Go-Hawks dating back to 2019.

Charles City took five of six singles matches, and two of the three doubles matches while improving to 3-2 in dual-meet play.

Singles winners for Charles City included freshman Sofia Alinea, who defeated WSR junior Addy Huisenga 8-4 in the pro-set No. 2 match; senior Hannah Hoffman, who defeated Bella Feldhack 8-1 at No. 3; junior Alexis Eaves, who defeated Maddy Vankley 9-8 at No. 4; senior Jada Litterer, who defeated Rylee Tempel 8-5 at No. 5; and senior Marissa Avelar, who defeate Kiyrah Karstens 8-3 at No. 6.

Alinea and Litterer defeated Feldhack and Karstens 8-5 at No. 2 doubles; and Avelar and Eves defeatre Vankley and Tempel 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

WSR senior Maddie Leary defeated Comet senior Rylee DeBoest 8-2 at No. 1 singles; and Leary and Huisenga defeate DeBoest and Hoffman 8-6 at No. 1 doubles for the Go-Hawks’ two wins.

Charles City is scheduled to host Grundy Center Tuesday at Sportsmen’s Park.
