CHARLES CITY — In a pro-set match that featured extended rallies and had both playe3rs utilizing all angles of the court, Charles City senior Hannah Hoffman was able to keep Osage senior Brooklyn Brock in the rearview mirror — though never too far out of sight — while winning the No. 3 singles match 8-6 during Thursday’s girls tennis dual at Sportsmen’s Park.

It was the final varsity match of the evening, but the Green Devils had already clinched the meet, winning 6 matches to 3.

Charles City’s other singles win came at No. 6 when junior Anya Ruzicka rolled over Osage junior Sophia Ketelsen 8-1. It was Ruzicka’s third win of the season.

Charles City’s No. 2 doubles team consisting of senior Jada Litterer and freshman Sofia Alinea defeated Brook and Ketelsen 8-5 for the Comets third win.

Osage’s resident returning state-qualifying doubles team of senior sisters Kaitlyn and Kendall Olson were responsible for three of the Devils’ wins. Kaitlyn Olson defeated Comet senior Rylee DeBoest 8-3 at No. 1 singles; Kendall Olson bested Alinea 8-3 at No. 2 singles; and both Olsons defeated DeBoest at Hoffman 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Osage senior Rylie Tabbert defeated Charles City senior Jada Litterer at No. 4 singles; Osage freshman Marley Kerrick defeated Charles City junior Marissa Avelar at No. 5 singles; and Tabbert and Kerrick defeated Avelar and Ruzicka at No. 3 doubles for the other Green Devil wins.

Osage improved to 2-1 and Charles City fell to 2-3 for the season after a meet that looked as if was going to be rained out earlier in the day.

The Comets will travel to Clear Lake on Friday for an away meet.
