CHARLES CITY — For the first time this season, Charles City junior Carson Gallup earned medalist distinction while helping the Comet boys golf team win Tuesday’s 18-hole triangular against visiting Decorah and Waukon at Cedar Ridge Golf Course.

Gallup’s 80 score added with Riley Perez’s 84, Bryce Walker’s 87 and Gabe Rogstad’s 97 for a team total of 348 was 2 strokes better than Waukon (350) and 10 strokes ahead of Decorah (358).

Waukon senior Dylan Hogan was the runner-up medalist with a score of 82.

* At Veterans Memorial Park Golf Course in Clear Lake, the Comet girls also played in an 18-hole meet on Tuesday — their first one of the season.

Charles City junior Mya Rimrod shot a career-low 102 to lead the Comets, whose team score of 437 placed them fifth among the eight full varsity teams.

New Hampton, led by Lauren Nuss’s 82, paced the field with a 356 team score ahead of Sumner-Fredericksburg (365) and the hosting Clear Lake Lions (382), who were paced by senior standout Meghan DeLong’s medalist score of 74.

“First 18-hole experience will be a good start for (upcoming) May tournaments,” Comet girls coach Eric Johanningmeier said.
