CHARLES CITY — Relatively speaking, left-handers are rare … or at least not as common as right-handers.

Still, most every sports team makes sure they have one or two. The Waldorf University women’s golf team is not an exception.

On April 18, the Charles City Comet girls team’s resident southpaw Shelby Effle signed her letter of intent to continue her career with the Warriors.

“I like the community and the small-town atmosphere,” Eiffle said of Forest City, the home of the Warriors, of the reasons why she chose Waldorf, “and I liked the coach (Mark Clouse), too.”

The Comet senior is a two-time All-Northeast Iowa Conference golfer. Effle is also the second player on the Comets’ current team who signed to play at the next level.

Claire Girkin, a state-qualifier from last season, signed to play golf and bowl for Luther College.

Effle will major in elementary education at Waldorf.
