Comets to face Western Dubuque in substate baseball quarterfinal

The Charles City Comets have drawn Western Dubuque as their first-round (quarterfinals) opponent in the Class 3A-Substate 3 baseball bracket.

The Comets (2-17 going into Monday’s doubleheader against Decorah), will face the 20-10 Bobcats, who are ranked No. 5 in the latest Class 3A rankings released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, at Farley Community Baseball Park at 7 p.m. July 12.

The winner will face the Independence (11-17) at Decorah (16-12) QF winner at 7 p.m. July 15 at a site to be determined.

The substate championship will take place at 7 p.m. July 17 at a site to be determined.

The other side of the bracket includes Hampton-Dumont (8-18) and Center Point-Urbana (22-8); and Clear Lake (12-9) at Waverly-Shell Rock (19-8) in the other QFs.
