WAUKON — Seventh-grader Meghan Korbel, representing Charles City Middle School, placed first in the Junior High Girls 2-Mile Race during the Waukon Cross Country Invitational held Tuesday at Waukon Golf and Country Club.

Korbel’s time of 13 minutes, 32.60 seconds was more than several “lengths” ahead of runner-up Hattie Sauer (13:51.51) from Decorah, which placed atop the seven-team standings with 30 team points.

Charles City MS girls placed fourth (115).

Decorah also won the Junior High Boys 2-Mile Race while being paced by winner Kalin Harman (12:02.94) and runner-up Leonard Nimrod (12:03.53).

Benny Tracey was the first runner in for Charles City with a 13th-place time of 13:30.53 helping the Comets place fourth amid six full teams.
