CHARLES CITY — Going into the Baker Rotation round of Friday’s boys bowling dual between the Decorah Vikings and the Charles City Comets at Comet Bowl, the hosts were up by 6 pins.

But after three Baker games, it appeared that the Vikings were on the verge of sailing away with it.

They had built a 52-pin lead over the Comets. But then Charles City combined efforts to roll a team season-best 254 in the fourth Baker game to close within 17 pins before finishing with a solid 196 with the Vikings “opening” some doors with several missed one-pin spares resulting in a 3,105 to 3,088 victory for the Comets.

Comet right-side two-handed sophomore Noah White, a Class 1A state individual runner-up last season who sports one of the highest averages in the state, continued to assault the pins during Friday’s victory over the Vikings as he rolled a 475 two-game series in the individual round to lead all rollers.

Freshman Cooper Holm (423), senior Zach Putney (401), senior Keaton Ross (385) and junior Jayden Lopez (385) rounded out the individual scoring for the Comet boys, who improved to 3-1 for the season.

Senior Jordan Sims had a 453 two-game series for the Viking boys, who suffered their first loss of the season in four meets.

The Vikings girls remained undefeated (4-0) after they dealt the Comet girls their first loss of the season by way of a 2,797 to 2,551 total pinfall score.

Junior Jasera Tweten had a 426 two-game series in the individual round to lead the Vikings.

Tabulated individual two-game series scores from the Comet girls (3-1) included those from senior Isabel Crawford (409), senior Payton Hadley (394), sophomore Miyah Stevenson (337), senior Darian Hesse (288) and sophomore Kinleigh Bahe (276).

Both the Comet boys and girls teams won’t be back in action after a long holiday season break until Jan. 17 when they host New Hampton at Comet Bowl.
