Comets pull away from Chickasaws in 3rd quarter for 71-56 road win

NEW HAMPTON — Sometimes, games are decided in the fourth quarter.

Last Friday’s Northeast Iowa Conference boys basketball game featuring Charles City and hosting New Hampton was decided in the third quarter.

Down by 1 at halftime (24-23), the visiting Comets outscored the Chickasaws 25-9 in the third quarter which accounted for much of the margin of victory in a 71-56 final.

Comet sophomore Henry Ruzicka led all scorers with 22 points.

Senior Jordin Ritter had 19 points, five assists and a game-high 11 rebounds; and junior Victor Ward scored 12 and had a pair of steals for Charles City (7-9 overall, 5-1 in NEIC), which completed its season-sweep of the Chickasaws (3-14, 0-7).

The Comets will be back in action on Thursday and the following Friday when they host respective opponents Waverly-Shell Rock and Waukon in Comet Gym.
