CHARLES CITY — For the second time this season as well as the second time in school history, the Charles City girls soccer team was able to wave the “W”.
A week after the Comets defeated New Hampton 2-1 for the program’s first varsity win amid its third season, CC was victorious again after downing Hampton-Dumont-CAL 7-2, Tuesday at Comet Field.
Charles City sophomore midfielder Nevaeh Bloker scored a “hat trick” and “then some” with a team record 4 goals in one varsity game — Bloker had the previous school record (2 goals against NH).
Sophomore Mallory Cook had 1 goal and one assist; senior Destiny Kolheim and freshman Savannah Bloker each had a goal; sophomore Nya Nosbisch was credited with an assist; and junior keeper Kayla Streich stopped seven shots on goal for the Comets, who improved to 2-3 going into Thursday’s away match against Belmond-Klemme.
The Bulldogs fell to 0-5-1.
In the boys varsity match played earlier at the same “pitch”, the Comet boys didn’t fare as well as they were shut out by Waverly-Shell Rock 9-0.
Charles City’s boys (1-4) will be back in action next Tuesday (April 22) when they travel to Postville.
