Comets net winning record before tennis regionals

CHARLES CITY — With last Thursday’s home victory over Oelwein by a score of 6 matches to 3 at Sportsmen’s Park, the Charles City girls tennis team finished the regular season with a 6-3 dual meet record going into regional play.
The Comets took four of the six singles matches with sophomore Sofia Alinea winning at No. 1, senior Anya Ruzicka winning at No. 2, freshman Jacy Hall winning at No. 4, and junior Sofia Parrott winning at No. 6.
Alinea and Parrott won the No. 1 doubles match, and Hall and freshman Joselin Bonnstetter took the No. 3 doubles match.
The Comets start the postseason with the Class 1A Region 4 Singles and Doubles Tournament, Monday (May 12) at Decorah. Alinea and Parrott are Charles City’s chosen singles entries; Ruzicka and fellow senior Marissa Avelar will be the Comets’ lone doubles team.
The Comets are due to face Oelwein again in the first round of the Class 1A Region 4 Team Tournament, Friday (May 16) at Decorah.
