INDEPENDENCE — Charles City senior Carson Gallup belatedly earned medalist honors during Wednesday’s Class 3A Boys Golf Sectional held at River Ridge Golf Course.

Gallup’s 18-hole score of 75 tied him with Waverly-Shell Rock seniors Tyler Gade and Luke Frazell before Gallup won the subsequent playoff for the sectional title.

Gallup advances to the Class 3A Regional as an individual next Monday (May 19) at Waverly Municipal Golf Course.

Charles City missed advancing as a team as its 332 total score was 4 strokes shy of finishing in the top three for regional qualification, tying the Comets with Clear Lake for fourth place.

Waverly-Shell Rock won the sectional with a team score of 314.

Rounding out the final team score for the Comets were senior Riley Perez (82), junior Bryce Walker (87) and senior Nick Williams (88).

At the Class 1A Boys Sectional at Nashua Golf and Country Club, Nashua-Plainfield — behind senior Dawson Glaser’s 82 — advanced as a team with a second-place score of 336.

West Fork, with medalist Nolan Schreckengost (75), won the sectional (327).

North Butler tied AGWSR for fourth place (351), but will be represented by senior Nolan Reser (80, 4th) at the Class 1A District Tournament at Highland Park in Mason City on Monday.
