Nashua-Plainfield ties for third among Class 1A girls at State T&F Meet

Press Staff Report

DES MOINES — Nashua-Plainfield senior Kadence Huck won her ninth and 10th individual state titles of her career as well as adding to her career state runner-up showings during the State Track and Field Championship held last Thursday through Saturday at Drake Stadium.

On Thursday, Huck won the Class 1A girls 400-meter run with a personal-best time of 55.61 seconds.

Then on Friday, Huck won the 800 run with a time of 2 minutes, 10.22 seconds — it was the third time Huck won a state title in the 800, and the 10th for overall state titles.

On Saturday, Huck went for a third state title in the 1500 — and 11th overall — and ended up breaking the previous state-meet record. But Huck’s time of 4:33.29 was bested by St. Albert junior Lili Denton (4:30.63), who is now the official record holder.

Denton was also a member of St. Albert’s Class 1A girls 1600-meter medley relay, that won Friday’s final with a time of 4:05.87 — Nashua-Plainfield, with freshman Eva Foelske, sophomore Manuela Jimenez, freshman Kelly Cerwinske and Huck anchoring — placed second (4:08.86).

St. Albert won the Class 1A girls state title with 46 team points, finishing ahead of St. Ansgar (40) and Nashua-Plainfield and St. Edmond, which tied for third with 36 team points.

Huck was a member of N-P girls state champion team as a freshman in 2022.

Nashua-Plainfield junior Eli Kalainoff scored a couple of points for the Husky boys with a seventh-place showing in the Class 1A boys discus (155 feet, 2 inches).
