NEW HAMPTON — Chickasaw senior Jaxon Eckley not only dominated the first game of Friday’s Northeast Iowa Conference baseball doubleheader against Charles City. He dominated in multiple facets.

As a leadoff hitter during the 10-1 Chickasaw win, Eckley was 3 for 4 with a double, triple, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

As NH’s starting pitcher, Eckley pitched a no-hitter after striking out 10 and walking three in seven innings.

The following game, the Comets continued to struggle offensively as they only recorded two hits — by juniors Sawyer Hanson and Holden McInroy — yet managed to score 4 runs, which wasn’t enough as the Chickasaws completed the sweep in an 8-4 final.

Caden Rochford was 2 for 3 with a double and scored 2 runs for undefeated New Hampton (5-0), which is ranked No. 7 among Class 2A teams according to the rankings released this week by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Going into Monday’s away game against Oelwein, the Comets were still looking for their first win of the season after four losses.

Charles City will be back in action on Friday when it hosts NEIC rival Waukon in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 5 p.m.
