Press Staff Report
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Tex. — Former Charles City standout Kiki Connell ran her last race as an Iowa State Cyclone during the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships West Regional, hosted by Texas A&M University last Saturday (May 31).
In the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminaries, Connell placed 24th with a time of 10 minutes, 19.94 seconds — 3 seconds off her personal record during a race held in 90-degree heat.
Brigham Young University senior Lexy Halladay-Lowry paced a field of 48 in the heat with a time of 9:23.03 — the top 12 advanced.
Northern Iowa senior and Waverly-Shell Rock graduate Emma Hoins placed 37th in the prelim (10:39.37).
With one more indoor and outdoor track and field season of eligibility due to an injury, Connell will be transferring to Northwest Missouri State for graduate school and to close out her collegiate athletic career.
Connell’s finance, former Saint Ansgar standout Riley Witt, is an all-American runner for the NW Missouri St. Bearcats.
