For the second-straight NEIC baseball doubleheader, Charles City sophomore Noah White had a strong game two starting performance against Crestwood on Tuesday, but the Comets are still looking for their first win of the season.

Press Staff Report

CRESCO — For the second-straight Northeast Iowa Conference baseball doubleheader on the road, the Charles City Comets were able to counterpunch in the second game after taking it on the chin in the first and threatened to pull off their first win of the season.

The most recent effort was Tuesday’s double-dip against Crestwood.

After the Cadets won the first game, 9-2, the Comets were able to take a 4-0 lead through four innings in the second game.

Alas, Crestwood responded with 5 unanswered runs to complete the sweep in a 5-4 final.

Charles City sophomore Noah White had — what has recently been added to the baseball lexicon — a “quality start” for the Comets before being relieved with his team still leading.

The Friday before in game two of a doubleheader at Waukon, White had a previous “quality start” while yielding 2 earned runs in six innings during the 2-0 Indian victory.

After losing 10-0 in five innings the game before, Charles City had the tying and go-ahead runs aboard with the bases load and no outs in the top of the seventh but couldn’t bring anyone home.

The Comets (0-10, 0-6 NEIC) travel to Decorah (8-2, 6-0) on Friday for another NEIC doubleheader.
