Comets go 1-3 at Fort Dodge Softball Invitational

FORT DODGE — The Charles City Comets went 1-3 over the past weekend at the Fort Dodge Softball Invitational, held at the annual site of the State Championships — Harlan Rogers Sports Complex.
Comet senior Payton Hadley hit home runs during her team’s final two games of the invitational. During Friday evening’s 7-5 loss to Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Hadley went 2 for 4 with a solo HR. Senior Mya Rimrod was 2 for 3 with a double, and freshman Jaeda Molstead went 2 for 3 with an RBI against Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
During the Comets’ 13-3 loss to Atlantic on Saturday, Hadley was 2 for 2 with a home run while driving in all 3 of her team’s runs.
The Comets began the invite with a 10-0 loss to Class 5A No. 4-ranked Ankeny Centennial on Friday morning. Eighth-grader Lexan Joslin went 2 for 2 for the Comets’ only hits of the shortened game.
The Comets defeated Newell-Fonda 8-7 in the following game. Eighth-grader Ali Shirley went 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs; Rimrod went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs; senior leadoff hitter Emerson Bohlen went 3 for 5; and Molstead went 2 for 5 with an RBI for the Comets, whose record was 9-10 going into this week.
On Tuesday, the Comets will travel to Mikkelson Park for a Northeast Iowa Conference doubleheader against New Hampton.
