Press Staff Report

NEW HAMPTON — Freshman southpaw Addison Ellis struck out 16 and walked none while yielding six hits and 3 earned runs to help lead Charles City to a 5-3 victory in game one of Tuesday’s Northeast Iowa Conference softball doubleheader against hosting New Hampton at Mikkelson Park.

Ellis also went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and an RBI during the first part of what would be a Comet DH sweep.

Charles City won the second game 12-4 while improving to 11-10 overall and 5-2 in the NEIC.

The Chickasaws fell to 10-10 and 3-6.

Charles City senior Brooklyn Molitor was 4 for 4 with a double and drove in 5 runs — a season-high single-game RBI total for the Comets — in the second game.

Ellis had a double and 3 RBIs, and senior Emerson Bohlen and freshman Jaeda Molstead each had two hits in the second game for Charles City.

The Comets will be back in action this weekend for a Friday-and-Saturday tournament hosted by Iowa City West High School.
