A few of the 190 or so canoists taking part Tuesday in the Project AWARE river cleanup on the Cedar River pose with a chunk of metal pulled from the river representing the one-millionth pound of trash pulled from Iowa rivers in the project's 22-year history. At left is sculptor David Williamson, who will work with the volunteers to create a commemorative sculpture incorporating the piece of metal. Williamson is the same artist who worked with the Charles City community to create the Revival sculpture in Victory Park, remembering the 2008 flood that destroyed the pedestrin swinging bridge over the Cedar River.
