Scholarships awarded at Charles City High School Senior Recognition Night

Forty Charles City High School seniors shared more than a quarter million dollars in scholarships announced at the Senior Recognition Night Wednesday evening.

That number is skewed by a couple of Army Reserve and Army ROTC scholarships worth about $124,000 between them, but there was still a lot of help for future educational ventures being handed out at the event held in the Comet Gym.

Dollar awards ranging from several hundred dollars to several thousands dollars were made from about 60 different scholarship funds established by businesses and organizations or in memory of a person or persons. Some scholarship funds gave scholarships to more than one person, and many of the students received scholarships from more than one fund.

Several of the scholarships are eligible to be renewed beyond the first year of post-secondary education, if the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

Here is the list of scholarships, award amounts when listed and recipients.

• Allan J. Hastings Scholarship – $1,500 – Nathan Lopez.

• ISU Christina Hixon Opportunity Award – $5,000 each – Logan Carey and Natalie White.

• Army Reserves Scholarship – $65,000 – Brayce Howlett

• Charles City Noon Kiwanis Scholarship – $600 – Claire Eckenrod.

• PEO Sisterhood Scholarship – $1,000 – Katherine Prichard.

• PEO Wilson-Sands Memorial Scholarship – $250 – Delaney Ruzicka.

• Mike Eckenrod Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 each – Katelyn Miller, Janila Toney and Claire Eckenrod.

• AAUW Beverly Handley Scholarship – $750 – Emily Usher.

• Army ROTC Scholarship – $59,000 – Katherine Prichard.

• Freda Buchan Scholarship – $5,000 – Hailey Kowalski.

• Margaret Wolf Scholarship – $3,700 – Elizabeth Oleson.

• Sylvester Scholarship – $1,000 – Natalie White.

• Elaine M. Lane Scholarship – $500 each – Sophia Jensen, Katherine Prichard and Claire Eckenrod.

• Floyd County Cattlemen Scholarship – $1,000 each – Ethan Peterson and Trevor Peterson.

• Comet Jerry Scholarship – $1,000 each – Blake Wilson and Delaney Ruzicka.

• Michael Backer Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 – Abrianna Tynan.
