A new housing development in Charles City got underway on Friday, June 9, as Carlinda Limited Partnership broke ground on the Sherman Creek townhouse project.

“We’re happy to make this investment in Charles City,” said David Rottinghaus, who is part of the Carlinda partnership along with his father, Paul Rottinghaus, and sisters, Carolyn Debo and Lindsay Larson.

The family partnership has plans to develop a nine-unit townhouse project on the west side of Charles City, offering high end amenities for young professionals moving into Charles City.

“Our goal is to provide comfortable and modern living spaces that meet the needs of families and individuals to help make Charles City a more vibrant community,” said Rottinghaus. “This is just a piece of the puzzle but we hope this encourages others to invest in Charles City.”

McDonald Construction of Cedar Falls has been contracted to build the townhouses, which will be available for both lease and sale once completed.

Recognizing a need for housing at all levels in Charles City, the Rottinghaus’ hope that their project will encourage other investments in the community, Rottinghaus said.

“We hope this project will trigger more entrepreneurial drive in the local community to make their own investment in Charles City. We desperately need more eateries and retail businesses to fill our vacant Main Street properties,” said Rottinghaus. “If this proves successful, we have hopes of undertaking more developments in the future.”
