Terronez said she enjoys the range of patients she sees.

“My favorite part of my job is building relationships with patients and getting to know everything about them,” she said. “I love both the continuity of care and the variety of conditions we can treat as family medicine providers.”

Rural communities have been facing health care challenges, including accessibility to care, health care worker shortages, and a greater elderly population with unique needs and a greater number of chronic conditions, according to information from the FCMC.

Terronez, who grew up in Dysart with her parents and four siblings, said choosing to care for rural Iowans was an easy decision.

“I grew up in a small town in Iowa and loved the community feel that comes with a small town. I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she said.

Dawnett Willis, FCMC’s CEO, said, “We are excited to welcome Dr. Terronez to our community and to Floyd County Medical Center. Sarah has a true passion for preventative medicine and guiding her patients to better health.”

Terronez said, “Having a good family medicine provider is one of the best things you can do” for your health. “We are the ones who know everything about you. We help coordinate your care with any necessary specialists.

“Regular check-ups are an easy way to make sure you are up to date with all the screening recommendations for your age to catch things early,” she advised. “There are many conditions – diabetes, high blood pressure, colon cancer, etc. – that may not show symptoms until it has progressed, and we want to prevent it from getting to that point. That’s when permanent damage to your body can happen, and it becomes harder to treat.”

Terronez said she and her husband, Jimmy, enjoy spending their free time with friends and family in the Waterloo area. She said she enjoys traveling and spending time with their two “fur babies” – Oscar the pug and Sadie, their little Auggie.
