Charles City farmers market celebrates its customers

The Charles City farmers market was back in full swing on Saturday with a busy morning after days of oppressive heat.
Saturday marked the end of the market’s Customer Appreciation Week, which celebrated all the people that make their way down to Central Park to buy locally grown and made goods.
“We’re always appreciative,” said Main Street Director Mark Wicks. “Not every community is fortunate enough to have a farmer’s market.”
To show their appreciation to the market patrons, Wicks was out last week with a table of goodies for visitors to pick up. Along with cookies, freeze pops and other giveaway items, people also got to spin a wheel for a chance at free prizes.
Whether drawn in by the free cookies or the break in the heat, a steady stream of customers kept the vendors busy on Saturday.
“Everything is going really good so far. We had a really good turnout,” said Diana Childs of Childs Family Farm.
Even as the hottest days of the summer slowed down some of the foot traffic, Childs says that this has been a good year for the farmers market overall and she said she appreciates those who come out to partake in their homegrown goods.
“We want to thank everybody for supporting our little businesses,” said Childs.
