The filing period has begun for candidates looking to get on the ballot for the upcoming general election in November.

Three City Council members for the city of Charles City will have their current terms concluding this year. Phoebe Pittman, Phillip Knighten, and Keith Starr are all up for re-election this year and all three have stated that they will be filing papers to run for another term in office.

For the Charles City Community School District, there will be at least one opening on the school board this November. After one term on the board, board member Janiece Bergland has said she will not be running for a second term.

Board President Pat Rottinghaus also has her first term up this year and, though she has taken out nomination papers, she says she hasn’t yet decided if she will be going for another term.

Whether incumbent candidate or new challenger, nomination paperwork must be filed with the county auditor for mayor and city council elections in the county and with the district school board secretary for school board elections, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21.
