The annual Floyd Gospel Sing will be held Friday, Sept. 8, and Saturday, Sept. 9, featuring two dozen gospel soloists, families and groups from around the country.

The event will begin at 9:45 a.m. each day and continue to about 9 p.m., with each act performing in 20-minute sets. The Gospel Sing will take place at the Floyd Community Center Park.

The event has been held since 1995, when the Rev. Paul and Dixie Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse Church began realizing their dream of bringing southern gospel music to north Iowa.

All proceeds after expenses from the Gospel Sing are used to support the Lighthouse Academy, a Christian K-12 school in Floyd that was started in 1988.

“Each year, the financial resources from the Sing have helped keep tuition costs low and provided a quality, affordable Christian education for many families,” the Rev. Paul and Dixie Phillips said.

Each of the visiting performers or groups will appear two or three times throughout the Gospel Sing weekend.

Performers expected are:

  • 2nd Chance Ministries, of Cheraw, South Carolina.
  • Carolina, of Lattimore, North Carolina.
  • The Chitans, of McDonough, Georgia.
  • Brad Davis Family, of Welsh, Louisiana.
  • Larry Delawder Family, of Mathias, West Virginia.
