Elayne Stewart

Elayne Stewart, 73, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City with her loving family at her side.

A funeral Mass for Elayne Stewart will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Monsignor John Hemann celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd.

Visitation will be held at Hauser Funeral Home from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, where a Scripture Service will begin at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Elayne Alice (Anderson) Stewart, the daughter of Harold and Josephine (Meis) Anderson, was born Jan. 16, 1943, in Rodman. She received her education in the Woden/Crystal Lake Schools, graduating from Woden/Crystal Lake High School in 1960. On May 16, 1964, she was united in marriage to Donald Stewart at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The couple made their home in Floyd where all of their children were born, moved to Charles City, then to a farm near Colwell and back to Charles City.

Elayne worked at the ASCS Office for two years, tutored Special Education students in the Charles City Public School System for four years and raised her family at home. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Home Rosaries, Drop-In Center, Alliance of Mentally Ill, Emotions Anonymous and St. Mary Circle/St. Patrick Circle. Elayne was greatly devoted to the Blessed Mother, especially Our Lady of Guadalupe. She treasured her pilgrimages to the Shrine in La Crosse, Wis. and the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend. Elayne enjoyed music, playing cards, camping, raising miniature Shelties and collecting prayer cards, but loved spending time with her family. She was an avid listener, day and night, of Relevant Radio and cherished her two cats, Patches and Hope.

Living family members include her four children: Teresa (Doug) Pierce of Floyd, Rodney (Sue) Stewart of Charles City, Sally (Clarence) Marvin of Charles City and Sara (Kevin) Hemann of Charles City; six grandchildren: Valerie Johnson, Dustin Pierce, Tony Hemann, Rachel Sullivan, Ryan Hemann and Jordan Sullivan; two great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marlene Hennick of Charles City and Emily (Marty) Miller of Floyd; her adored cat, Hope; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on July 10, 2013; parents; brother, Wayne Anderson; and her other beloved cat, Patches.
