NASHUA — How do you attract a pair of Huskies?

Hold the ball for more than a half second and you’ll be facing a fierce double-team with teeth.

The Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball may not shoot the lights out, but it will fight for most every rebound and loose ball making its home gym pre-game safety advisory for fans not to sit in the front row rather prudent.

And though their record may not indicate it, early leads against the Lady Huskies are about as safe as sitting courtside.

On Monday, the visiting Clarksville Indians found that out the hard way after taking an 11-point lead at halftime (24-13) only to have the Huskies come out to score a season-high 40 second-half points on way to winning going away, 53-41.

Senior Sierra Fisher and junior Britney Holthaus each scored 10 points for the Huskies (3-15).

The second-half surge started with a pair of 3-point field goals on consecutive possessions by Brianna Bienemann to draw N-P within 5 (26-21).

Holthaus finished a difficult body-twisting layup to get the Huskies even closer (31-29) before Abby Lumley’s steal and layup tied things at 31 going into the fourth quarter.

Two put-back buckets from Madison Stirling gave the Indians a 37-33 lead, but Bienemann’s third 3-point shot of the half put the Huskies up 38-37 with four minutes remaining in regulation.

A pair of deft long-court passes from Fisher resulting in layups from Lumley and Holthaus extended the advantage to 44-37 before McKayla LeBeck came off the N-P bench to hit a 3-pointer to ice the game.

Stirling and Emma Poppe each had 10 points for Clarksville (8-12).

In the latter boys game of the varsity doubleheader, it was Nashua-Plainfield who jumped out to an early lead. Except in this case, the Huskies didn’t blow it … rather they built on it on way to routing the Indians 62-32.

Dayton Hansen scored a game-high 18 points before being granted the rest of the night off shortly after the third quarter for the Huskies. Dawson also was in double-figures with 10 points for Nashua-Plainfield (6-11).

No Indian reached double-figure scoring as Clarksville was led by sophomore Christopher Behrends — the smallest man on the court — who had 8 points.

Clarksville fell to 3-14 for the year.
