It may have only been an annual drill on Wednesday, but the weather sure looked gloomy enough once the tornado siren went off in Charles City.

Cloudy skies and off-again, on-again rain provided the morning’s background as the Charles City Community School District initiated class tornado drills. The school and city drills highlighted Iowa Severe Weather Awareness Week, issued by the National Weather Service to discuss weather safety behavior and policies.

The NWS issued a test tornado warning at 10:30 a.m. and urged people to review shelter practices at homes and businesses.

There is no severe weather forecasted for the rest of this week, but the sun might not arrive until Saturday: Thursday through Friday is expected to have more rain and temperatures hovering in the 40s. Saturday will be partly sunny with a slight chance of rain, and a high of 53.
