Paul D. Zimmer

Paul D. Zimmer of Norman Oklahoma, loving husband and father of two, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 at the age of 82 after an illness beginning in 2014.

Paul was born on Aug. 20, 1937 in Elma, IA to Donald and Dorothy (Tripp) Zimmer. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963 and was stationed at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. He joined First Baptist Church, Gulfport, MS where he met his wife, the organist of First Baptist. He married the love of his life, Jean Foster Zimmer, on July 17, 1962. They moved to Oklahoma where Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1971, followed by a long and distinguished career with the US Postal Service, teaching at the Postal Training Center. Paul and Jean raised two children, Dorothy L. and Donald R., both graduates of the University of Oklahoma.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Norman, at the time of his death. He served as choir member, sound committee member, and Sunday school teacher, in churches in MS and OK. He maintained and operated electronic equipment for competitive swimming in OK during the years Don and Dorothy swam with Sooner Swim Club.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Donald G. and mother, Dorothy A. He is survived by his wife Jean, his two children, Dorothy and Donald (Teresa), and his sisters Edie and Jennie and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

We thank the staff and nurses of Holiday Heights in Norman and Humanity Hospice for their excellent care.

Committal service will be held Friday Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. at Union City Cemetery.
