Joann Nixt

Joann Nixt was born Aug. 18, 1934 in Greene, Iowa to Joseph and Alice (Stock) Downing. Joann graduated from Greene High School then went on to work as a bookkeeper at Greene Produce and later as a secretary at the Iowa Department of Social Service. For 30 years, Joann worked as office manager for the Butler County Engineer’s Office, from which she retired in 1996.

Joann was a member of St. Mary’s and served in the Catholic Daughters for many years. Her hobbies included playing card games, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and supporting local sports teams. She also served as an election official and as a member of the City Council.

Joann is survived by her three children, Deb White of Greene, Lisa Wilken (Leland) of Adel, Louis Nixt (Carla) of Marble Rock; grandchildren, Kimberly White (Nick Poehler), Aaron White (Kelly), David White (Lindsey), Brian Wilken, Bradley Wilken, JoLynn Wilken Blair (Thomas), Landon Vieth (Cassie), Gabriel Vieth (Carrie), Samantha Hicks; great grandchildren, Alicea Wilken, Chance Wilken, Brylie Hathaway, Harlee Blair, Wesley Blair, Annabel Vieth, Oliver Vieth, Eloise Vieth, Boston Vieth, Brighton Sauble, Riley White; sister, Dorothy Letsch of Grimes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Alice Downing; brothers, James Downing and William Downing; brother-in-law, Richard Letsch; and sister-in-law, Carol Downing.
