Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Ballard

Veronica “Ronnie” Ballard, 98, of Osage, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 at the Osage Rehab and Healthcare Center.

A funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Tom Heathershaw celebrating the Mass. The funeral Mass will be live streamed on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Facebook page. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City. Those attending will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines and to please wear a face covering; thank you for your understanding.

Veronica Florence (Heck) Ballard, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Gerner) Heck, was born on June 25, 1922 in Union Township, Iowa. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Earnie Ballard on Oct. 28, 1941 in Austin, Minnesota. To this union, the couple was blessed with four children.

Ronnie worked for Salisbury’s Laboratories as a lab tech in quality assurance for 33 years. She had many active memberships throughout her life including: Red Cross Donor, FEMA disaster team volunteer (she helped in Houston, Louisiana, Virginia, and Kentucky), Navy Mothers of America, various offices in the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a lifetime member of the Guild. Two of her great achievements were being named the Iowan of the Day at the Iowa State Fair and earning the Clara Barton Red Cross Award. Ronnie enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable garden, canning, traveling, knitting, and being a seamstress.

Living family members include her daughters: Barbara (John) Pint of Mitchell, Bonnie Pint of Osage, and Linda (David) Hennagir of Griffith, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and one on the way in June 2021; daughter-in-law, Brenda Ballard of Greene; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnie; son, Daniel; son-in-law, Larry Pint; four sisters; and two brothers.
