James ‘Jim’ P. Wubbens

James, “Jim” P. Wubbens, 56, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Charles City, Iowa passed away Feb. 13, 2021, surrounded by family, at St. Luke’s Hospital, after battling COVID.

Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Rev. Andrew Marr will officiate.

Jim was born April 10, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Ed and Rose Marie (Sullivan) Wubbens. He married his only love Sheila Egan June 22, 1983, at Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Three children were blessed to this union, Alisia, Ryan, and Danielle.

Jim graduated from Charles City High School in 1982. Aspiring to follow in his father’s footsteps in the electrical contracting field, he attended Northwest Iowa Technical College and studied in the Industrial Electrician Program. Jim returned to Charles City and joined Wubbens Electric Inc., the family business, where he worked all aspects of the company and earned the title of Owner/President. He finished his electrical journey at 3E Electrical Engineering & Equipment Co. in Cedar Rapids where he was a quotation specialist. Jim was well respected by Contractors who valued his opinion and advice. Jim enjoyed the variety of tasks that his job provided, especially answering questions and providing advice on solutions to electrical questions.

Jim enjoyed life and had many interests, whether it was a road trip, an afternoon of kayaking or an all-day boat trip with his wife, life was special. Friends were always important and included golf, grilling and relaxing, and especially reminiscing about the old days and the latest news of the family.

As a father, Jim was encouraging and supportive. His self-made carpentry skills were very helpful as there was always a project waiting for dad when he came to visit. The only thing more special than being a father was the blessings of nine treasured grandchildren. This fun-loving Papa was great at teasing the little ones. Actually just a big kid himself, he was always up for long afternoons of fun. He would make time to rock a baby to sleep, swim with kids or figure out how to build the best box-sled to go down the basement steps, the grandchildren were very important, and so many memories were made. He was a special Papa, Husband, Dad, Brother and Friend who touched so many and will always be in our hearts.

Survivors include his wife Sheila; children: Alisia (Jade) Wilson of Clarksville, TN, Ryan (April) Wubbens of Kaaawa, HI, Danielle (Dustin) Rippentrop of Charles City; grandchildren: Izabella, Gabriella, and Amelia Wilson, Wrenly and Lenny James Wubbens, Greyson, Abram, Lawson, and Blake Rippentrop; a sister, Susan (Bob) Morris of Manchester, IA; parents-in-law, Steve and Carol Egan of Texas.

He was preceded in death by parents and a brother, Terry Wubbens.
