Ron was born on Dec. 22, 1959. He was the second child born to Gervase and Patricia “Patty” (Reicherts) Hemann. He grew up south of Riceville on the family farm, living close to grandparents and cousins. Ron graduated from Riceville High School in 1978. He was actively involved with the Jaycees for many years in Riceville in his younger years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ron grew up farming with his family, was involved in FFA in school, showing sheep at fairs and earning awards. He loved growing crops and when he stopped farming in 2017, he continued with huge gardens which he shared the produce with many.

In 1979, he met his soul mate and future wife, Gena (Beine), on a blind date. They were married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City on July 23, 1982. In 2006, Matthew “Duff” Deardeuff joined the family as his son-in-law and in 2009, his grandson Parker was born bringing so much joy to Ron. When his mother, Patty, passed away his father, Gervase, married Nancy (Clark) Theis in 2000, bringing five more loving stepsiblings into his life.

Ron was a Jack of all trades. He could fix almost anything. He loved working with wood and building things. He loved anything outdoors and had a great passion for fishing and hunting. Ron was always able to find the positive in life. He had a strong Catholic faith and loved helping others. After working various jobs, Ron worked at Blong’s Cabinets, later known as Custom Wood Products, where he had a total of 30 years of service.
