LETTER: Most of community handled wastewater problem well

The Rev. Kathryn S. Campbell, Charles City

Probably like everyone in Charles City, I was proud that members of the community cooperated in the efforts to prevent the escape of raw sewage into the river during the recent flood. It was a marvelous accomplishment.

Unfortunately, while nothing escaped from our wastewater facility, some homes had sewage backups.

The cause? People who emptied their own sewage directly into the river. I’m sure that they imagined that the river would just carry it away, but they were wrong.

Perhaps The Press could find some way for the community to share the ways they dealt with the situation.

I’ve heard some good ideas which might help us whenever it happens again.
