Rockford, Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler wrestlers individual sectional champs

By way of finishing in the top two at the Class 1A Sectional 7 and Sectional 8 meets on Saturday, individual wrestlers from Rockford, Nashua-Plainfield and North Butler advance to the Class 1A District 4 meet to be held next Saturday (Feb. 13) in Mason City

At the Sectional 7 at Central Springs, Rockford’s Will Portis repeated as the 106-pound champion while improving to 44-3 for the season with a major decision (11-2) over Jacob McBride of Newman Catholic in the final bout.

Nashua-Plainfield boasted two Sectional 7 champions with 126-pounder Tristen Blase (39-13) pinning Alex Martinson of Lake Mills less than a minute into their championship bout; and 182-pounder Jason Fisher recording a fall in 1 minute, 40 seconds against Nick Miller of Central Springs in their championship bout.

At 195, Heath Farr was a second-place qualifier for Rockford, which placed sixth as a team (90 points). Matthew Stille (138) and Mason Hyde (170) were second-place qualifiers for Nashua-Plainfield, which placed fourth (143 team points) behind Lake Mills (222), Central Springs (203) and Saint Ansgar (167)

At Sectional 8 in Hudson, North Butler placed third (143) in the seven-team field, led by 152-pounder Dalton Nelson, who improved his record to 42-3 with a 9-4 decision over Chris Paulsen of Don Bosco-Gilbertville in their final.

North Butler didn’t have any second-place qualifiers. Three Bearcats took third place: Bryce Trees (106), Trevor Brinkman (113), Tyler Brinkman (145) and Brandon Trees (160).

Don Bosco emerged Sectional 8 champs with 230 team points ahead of runner-up Dike-New Hartford (215.5).

Other Sectional 7 individual champions include Jeremiah Colon of Newman Catholic (113), Chance Throndson of Riceville (120), Andrew Morische of Riceville (132), Cutter Bruce of Saint Ansgar (138), Michael Olsen of Lake Mills (145), Cole Neel of Central Springs (152), Spencer Jensen of Lake Mills (160), Zach Ryg of Central Sprints (170), Slade Sifuentes of Lake Mills (195), Colton Hansen of Newman Catholic (220) and Sawyer Hulshizer of Saint Ansgar (285).

Other Sectional 8 individual champions include Gable Fox of Don Bosco (106), Logan Lutgen of Don Bosco (113), Max Wettengel of Don Bosco (120), Kody Kugel of Dike-New Hartford (126), Jacob Hansen of West Fork-Sheffield (132), Austin Hellman of Don Bosco (138), Trent Johnson of Dike-New Hartford (145), Taylan Entriken of Hudson (160), Noah Huber of Hudson (170), DJ Ackerson of Dike-New Hartford (182), Spencer Bruess of Don Bosco (195), Caleb Meinder of AGWSR-Ackley (220) and Michael Young of AGWSR-Ackley (285).
