To The Press

The Chucktown Legends Baseball Club has recently completed a very successful 2023 season this spring and summer. The five teams (ranging in age from 8 & Under to 12 & Under) finished with a combined tournament record of 62-34.

* The Legends 8U team hosted three tournaments at Sportsman’s Park and competed in North Linn for a tournament as well. For most of these boys, this was their first taste of travel baseball.  The 8U team as a whole showed the most improvement out of any Legend team throughout the season.  Individual awards included: MVP — Brady Lines; Most Improved — Dominic Carey; Legend Award — Quincy Johnson.

* The Legends 9U team became the most decorated team of the program by earning three USSSA championships.  The team finished the year in the AAA division which is an incredible feat considering that these boys all come from the Charles City School District. Most of their competition consisted of club teams from the metro areas of Iowa.  Individual awards included: MVP — Mason Thorson; Most Improved — Greyson Rippentrop; Legend Award — Nile Nash.

* The Legends 10U team played in four tournaments, winning two and earning runner-up in the other two. This accomplishment is magnified when you consider that they didn’t have the same roster for any of those tournaments. They were able to make the most with whatever team was on the field due to their attitude and toughness. Individual awards included: MVP — Dax Johnson; Most Improved — Owen Barry; Legend Award — Hunter Apel.

* The Legends 11U team began the year 3-6, but were able to turn it on during the final stretch.  That stretch included winning nine out of their last ten games which included a dominant 6-0 run at the State Tournament to earn this group’s second state title in three years.  This group worked hard to put the early season woes behind them by putting in extra time.  Individual awards included: MVP — Bennett Jung; Most Improved — Sawyer Rottinghaus; Legend Award — Sabastian Parrott.

* The Legends 12U team, with the modification to City League, made major strides once again this year.  The increase in the game schedule allowed for more boys to get experience pitching in game situations which will bode well when they get to the High School level.  The extra time together didn’t affect the team chemistry as they have always been a fun group that puts the team ahead of individuals.  Individual awards included: MVP — Brayden Caffrey; Most Improved — Charley Sweet; Legend Award — Ajay Johnson.
