A group of Charles City High School kids took advantage of the warm weather and an early out from school on Friday to spend some time “just rippin’ it.”

The young men spent the afternoon on an open lot by the railroad tracks on 13th Avenue trying out some “toys” for the first time this year, including motorized dirt bikes, mopeds, four-wheelers and even a golf cart. They said they were “loving the weather” and “enjoying the unofficial start to the summer.”

They said the property was once owned by the railroad, now owned by the parents of one of the young men, and that as long as they weren’t hurting anyone, they weren’t hassled by anyone — except for maybe by an occasional curious photographer from the Charles City Press.
