Press Staff Report

Marble Rock customers of First Security Bank & Trust will be able to bank in person locally again beginning next month.
The branch office closed on Oct. 1 after heavy rains caused structural damage to portions of the building above the main entrance. Since then the bank has been working to determine what it would take to reopen the facility, according to information released by the bank on Tuesday.

“The bank has had multiple inspections, including one just this week, and it has been concluded that, with some repairs, First Security will be able to safely reopen the Marble Rock facility by early December,” the bank said.

“Thank you again for your continued patience,” said Kurt Herbrechtsmeyer, president and CEO of First Security, to the bank’s customers.

“It has been our goal since this happened to reopen this office for your convenience, but the safety of our customers and staff is paramount,” he said.

The bank news release said there are still safety concerns about the structure above the main entrance, so that door will remain closed.

A different entrance for customers on the north side of the building will be opened after safety, security and accessibility upgrades are made there.

Brian Young, with Young Construction in Charles City, was working at the bank Tuesday afternoon.

“We’re just trying to make it so customers can get in and get back to normal as best they can,” he said.

A reopening date for early in December will be announced after it has been decided, the bank said.

Young said work on the front of the building probably won’t be started until after winter.
