Roland Cross

Roland Robert Cross, age 92, passed away on Sept. 24, 2021 at his home with his son Randy by his side. Roland was born on a farm outside Charles City on December 11, 1928 to Robert and Laura (Strus) Cross. He was married on February 7, 1948 to the love of his life Thelma Usher at her parent’s home in Charles City.

To this union two sons were born, Randy and Tim Cross. Rolly was a good father and husband who valued spending time with his family above everything. He was like a second father to his nieces Pam and Kari Cross. He enjoyed classic cars, traveling and John Wayne movies.

For most of his adult life he was an auto mechanic at several car dealerships in Iowa and Arizona. As a young man he also worked for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo and Bindler’s Dairy in Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Laura, brothers William, Larry and Garland and sister Marcella Carlson and daughter-in-law Debra. He is survived by his sons Randy and Tim, granddaughters Jen and Amanda and great-grandchildren Caitlin, Kyla, Nathan and Lily-Anne.

As per Roland’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service.
