The Charles City Lions Club’s 60th annual book sale will be held beginning next week at the former Oliver Tap Bar on Main Street.

Club members have already started laying out books on long rows of tables in the building that the city of Charles City purchased a couple of years ago.

Club members emphasized the new book sale location this year, at 813 N. Main St., a brick and green-sided building north of North Main Car Wash and south of the Pure Prairie Farms chicken processing plant.

The sale will be split up, running Wednesday through Saturday the next two weeks. Times are:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 12, to Friday, Oct. 14 – 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 15 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19, to Friday, Oct. 21 – 2 to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 22 – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We will have large selection of books in all categories on sale for as little as 50 cents,” said Mark Melrose, book sale committee advertising chair. “The selection is so huge and prices so low, we get customers from all over Iowa and Minnesota.”

All proceeds benefit Lions Club local charities and projects.

Book donations can be dropped off in Charles City prior to the sale at Otto’s Oasis, all Charles City banks, Hy-Vee, Theisens, Ace Hardware, Fareway, Dave’s Restaurant, Aromas, Trinity Methodist Church, ISU Extension and the Credit Union.

“We will accept donations during the sale as well,” Melrose said, “but please, no National Geographics or Reader’s Digest.”
